Textual: This is clearly a quotation from Mormon’s source. Since we do not have this particular statement in our copy of Nephi’s writings, we may be certain that the citation is from the large plate tradition rather than the small plates. We cannot be certain whether or not Mormon included this prophecy when he wrote the Book of Lehi (which would have contained Nephi’s writings and prophecies) but it is likely. Given Mormon’s interest in the passage here, an interest sufficient that he repeats the general information twice in succession, it is reasonable to assume that he would have included this information when he abridged the Book of Lehi.
