“Liars Were Punished”
It would be interesting to know exactly how liars were handled among the Nephites. We would suppose that unrepentant liars who held membership in the Church were dealt with in harmony with the principle found in modern revelation. “Thou shalt not lie,” the Lord commanded in 1831; “he that lieth and will not repent shall be cast out,” that is, cut off from the Church (D&C 42:21). In the end, of course, liars will be thrust down to hell in the postmortal spirit world and will inherit a telestial kingdom in eternity (see 2 Nephi 9:34; D&C 63:17-18; D&C 76:103-6).
