“Now the Name of the Man Was Gideon, and He Withstood Him with the Words of God”

George Reynolds, Janne M. Sjodahl

Gideon was one of those who with Ammon and Limhi assisted the people of Lehi-Nephi to escape Lamanite bondage. He was now a very old man, and in physical combat was not equal to one "who was large and who was noted for his great strength." Nehor drew his sword, and unmindful of Gideon's age, nor his many virtues, smote him until he died. Nehor thought that might is right, and that his finery and his prowess in contending with the sword would excuse his rash conduct. But in this he was mistaken.
