“The Lord Did Visit Them”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet
There is no reason to suppose that this statement does not mean precisely what it says, particularly when we remember that the Nephites had the temple. Where, might we ask, would the Lord rather be than among his own people? To those of our day the Lord said: “It shall come to pass that every soul who forsaketh his sins and cometh unto me, and calleth on my name, and obeyeth my voice, and keepeth my commandments, shall see my face and know that I am” (D&C 93:1). A second sense in which such a statement would find application is the promise that “where two or three are gathered together in my name, as touching one thing, behold, there will I be in the midst of them-even so am I in the midst of you” (D&C 6:32). “I am in your midst,” the Lord said, “and ye cannot see me” (D&C 38:7).
