Because of unbelief, the rising generation does not understand the things of God and thus their hearts are hardened. The antidote to this condition is to exercise faith and be believing (see D&C 90:24). Exercising faith to believe and then seeking understanding is pleasing to God (see Hebrews 11:6). Unbelief precipitates apathy, which is the antithesis of love—hence, obedience wanes, the heart is hardened, the Spirit is lost, and sin is the result. In our own lives, let us therefore seek and pray for understanding, that we may act with faith. When we act with faith, we remain easily entreated and prevent our hearts from becoming hardened to the things of the Lord.
