The rising generation disbelieved the doctrines of faith in the coming of a Redeemer, the need to repent of sins, and the resurrection of the dead. They refused to join the Church and be baptized, and their numbers increased “because of the dissensions among the brethren” of the Church. Members of the Church caught up in worldliness were called in to disciplinary councils before their priesthood leaders. Alma, the presiding authority of the Church, did not know about those who were rebelling against the Church, sinning, and luring away others. He was not aware, then, that his own son was among the rebels.
