Alma’s community existed because of their religious convictions. They were led out of Helam by a prophet, their escape assured by a miracle. Naturally, they thanked Yahweh for their deliverance. However, there is no mention of sacrifice. When Nephi and his brothers escape Laban’s murderous attempts, Lehi offers sacrifices as part of the ceremony of thanksgiving (1 Ne. 5:9). Have the principles of sacrifice changed for the Nephites by this time, or did Mormon simply neglect to include this detail?
