Why should we trust only teachers and leaders who are men of God?

Thomas R. Valletta

“The care we take in the choice of a physician ought to be nothing in comparison with the caution we take in the choice of those with whom we trust our eternal well-being. A wise father observed that he would rather trust his sheep to the care of a wolf than his children to a teacher who did not willingly keep the commandments of God” (McConkie and Millet, Doctrinal Commentary, 2:280).

Was there a church among the Nephites before Alma? (23:16) “In the part of the Book of Mormon where we first read that Alma was the ‘founder of their church,’ the pronoun their refers only to the people who were with Alma in the wilderness; it does not refer to the entire Nephite nation” (Ludlow, Companion to Your Study of the Book of Mormon, 189).
