In Mosiah 23:9, Oliver Cowdery initially wrote “in the sight of God” in 𝓟. He then crossed out the word God and wrote inline the Lord, which shows that the correction was immediate and that the original manuscript must have read “in the sight of the Lord”. Elsewhere, the text has examples of both phrases, with five of “in the sight of God” and six of “in the sight of the Lord”, so either reading is possible. For each case we therefore follow the earliest textual sources in determining whether we have “in the sight of God” or “in the sight of the Lord”.
Summary: Maintain in Mosiah 23:9 the corrected reading in 𝓟: “in the sight of the Lord”.
