We learn from this section that the Lord warned Alma that the armies of Noah would come upon him. So the Lord did strengthen Alma and his peoples, thus preventing Noah’s armies from overtaking them (vv. 1–2). The traveling distance of eight days (v. 3) may be significant geographically and will be discussed later. The land where they settled had the same characteristics as the place of Mormon, which they left—a very beautiful and pleasant place, a land of pure water (v. 4, compare 18:5, 30).
