The probable cause for Limhi’s not slaying the injured king was a desire to know why the oath was broken (v. 14). Oaths were sacred in both cultures (see 1 Nephi 4:30–35). The sacredness of oaths is shown in Limhi’s determination to find who was responsible for the act (Mosiah 20:16).
