Nothing in Alma’s recorded preaching directly supports Noah’s assertion that Alma was preaching rebellion. Nevertheless, it was true that what Alma preached was antithetical to Noah’s religious and political order. Even if Alma had not mentioned resistance to Noah and his priests, the teachings themselves would have caused a schism. Some type of rebellion was inevitable. Although the movement of Lehi-Nephi residents to Mormon and their baptism is not, from our perspective, a rebellion, it could only have been a matter of time.
