We are to give to the poor and needy according to our capacity to give. If we have more, we give more. The counsel is clear: Give readily and of your own free will (see Jacob 2:17; Mosiah 4:26; Alma 1:27; 4:13) and not to be seen of men (see 3 Nephi 13:1–4). Your prayers are vain if you fail to care for the needy, the sick, and afflicted (see Alma 34:27–29). You are to serve and help others both temporally and spiritually according to their needs. Ministering to others by sharing the word of God will bring about the greatest blessings of change in their lives (see Jacob 4:1; Alma 31:5).
