To keep the teachings of the prophet entirely accurate Alma required that the priests restrict themselves to teach precisely what Abinadi had taught. Actually, Abinadi had been very profound in teaching the principles of the gospel and a novice might easily get off track. Alma therefore encouraged the priests to emphasize the basics, repentance and the need to be worthy of the redemption of mankind through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. He further admonished them to avoid contention and to love one another.
