Alma was anxious to establish the Church of God in this land, as, no doubt, it had existed in the days when Nephi stood as its earthly head. Alma recognized that his brethren wanted to enter into the fold of Christ, and he also realized that they, too, desired to be called God's people, and wished to serve Him in deeds of loving-kindness to one another, and also that they might ease each other's burdens. Alma called on his converts to comfort the aching hearts of those who mourned, and also to bear witness of God at all times, not only by word of mouth, but also by keeping all His commandments, "that ye may have eternal life."
