Many people came to a knowledge of their Redeemer at the place called Mormon (see v. 30). “This beautiful area became a sacred place in Nephite religious history because of the spiritual resurgence that occurred there (ca. 147 B.C.). The prophet-historian Mormon was named after this land (3 Ne. 5:12), and Alma spoke of the events there in his efforts to preach repentance to Nephites in Zarahemla (Alma 5:3–13)” (Largey, Book of Mormon Reference Companion, 555).
