Mindful of his own safety, yet anxious in the cause of the Lord, Alma, from the seclusion of his hiding place, taught to everyone who would listen, the same great saving truths that he, as one of King Noah's priests, had heard Abinadi proclaim.
These teachings had sunk deeply into Alma's heart; he not only realized their truth, but also he comprehended their saving value. The first lesson they impressed upon his mind was the necessity of his own complete repentance. This he did, sincerely, and then he began to teach others the same lesson. Fearing the king, he did not teach openly, but secretly as the opportunities permitted. Alma had written down the words of Abinadi. We may presume, that they, who listened to him, had copies of the Hebrew Scriptures transcribed from the Plates of Brass. From them Alma was able to explain and expound the doctrines of the Resurrection of the Dead, the Redemption of Mankind, Christ's Atoning Sacrifice, His Resurrection, and His Ascension into Heaven. All of these doctrines, foreshadowed in the Law of Moses, the righteous Nephites thoroughly understood.
