Abinadi will not recant, and declares that his death will stand as a testimony against Noah (and his priests). Abinadi is very clear in verse 9 that his presence before Noah was voluntary. Even though he had been brought to Noah and the priests, Abinadi declares that it was his purpose to come, and that he could have avoided it had he wished. This further indicates that the focal point of Abinadi's mission was his sermon before the priests - which both converted Alma and eternally condemned the rest.
