Alma flees under threat of his life. As an eyewitness to the proceedings, he makes a written record of Abinadi’s words. Although the Book of Mormon, as such, is not available to the world before the Restoration, parts are in circulation among the ancient American Saints. The words of Benjamin are recorded and circulated to later generations (see the example of Ammon reading them to the people of Limhi—Mosiah 8:3). Now Abinadi’s words are preserved in the same manner.
