Thy Rod and Thy Staff They Comfort Me

George Reynolds, Janne M. Sjodahl

There are many roads that traverse this valley. Some are pleasant, others are rough. But always, when at last we realize our day's pilgrimage on earth is nearly ended, and the shadows of night begin to gather about us, the Word of the Lord spreads over us a canopy of peace and fills our hearts with a joyous hope of life everlasting.

We no longer fear that of which we had been most afraid, and death, itself, instead of being a dark and gloomy chasm through which we must pass and where despair and anguish take possession of our souls, has now become illumined with God's glory, because as we enter that land "where all have gone and all must go," we see emblazoned upon the very portals of Eternal Life the words of our Lord and Savior, Jesus of Nazareth, "I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die."
