“The Bands of Death”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet

Had there been no Christ, had Mary not brought forth the Father’s Only Begotten Son, had the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world not taken upon himself a body of flesh and blood, there could have been no redemption-no freeing of men from the dominion and power of Satan. Nor would there have been a breaking of the bands of death in a glorious resurrection. Adam and all of his children would have remained as if there had been no redemption made. They would have been as Jacob declared, “devils, angels to a devil, to be shut out from the presence of our God, and to remain with the father of lies, in misery, like unto himself” (2 Nephi 9:9).
