When the children of Israel saw that Pharaoh and the army of Egypt were pursuing them they complained bitterly to Moses, supposing that they would be destroyed. “Fear ye not,”
Moses responded, “stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.” (Exodus 14:13-14; italics added.)
Moses then parted the Red Sea that Israel might walk through it on dry ground while the mighty army of Egypt was drowned in its waters. “Thus the Lord saved Israel that day” and established a pattern for all future generations (see Exodus 14:30).
The salvation of Israel, her deliverance from all enemies, resides with God; and that deliverance must come in such a manner that none can doubt that God did it. Indeed, Israel has no redemption save it comes at his hands.
