Scripture is in large measure commentary on other scripture. Here Abinadi expounds on the words of Isaiah, “It pleased the Lord [Elohim] to bruise him [Jesus] ” (Mosiah 14:10; Isaiah 53:10). He who in all things was to personify full obedience to the Father could do so only through the surrender of his own life. it was necessary and requisite that his be the sacrifice of all-his life and his will must be freely given to the Father.
