This verse could be very seriously misunderstood. It sounds almost as though God rejoiced to see his son crucified. Actually, the Father suffered even more than Abraham did when he was commanded to sacrifice his son, Isaac, and it is believed that the reason the Lord commanded Abraham to sacrifice his son was so that at least one earthly father would better appreciate what it was like when the Heavenly Father was required to sacrifice his Beloved Son in order to save this round of creation from the fall. We mentioned this earlier in our discussion of Jacob 4:5.
At this point, let us merely mention that since every round of the Father's creation requires a redemptive sacrifice, it greatly pleased the Father and caused him to rejoice that Jesus would volunteer to go through this terrible experience so as to redeem this round of creation from the fall. Like any father, he cringed at the thought of what Jesus would have to go through but it greatly pleased the Father that his Beloved Son would volunteer to do it.
