What we are reading was misinterpreted by the scholars in Jerusalem and elsewhere as referring to the fall of Israel and her subsequent return to power. However these verses so obviously refer to the suffering of an individual that it is difficult to understand how they twisted the meaning and missed the great Messianic message which these verses contain. It is so obvious that this person is suffering in order to provide redemption for those who have sinned.
