“To Whom Is the Arm of the Lord Revealed?”

D. Kelly Ogden, Andrew C. Skinner

The question “who hath believed our report?” suggests that few have believed or understood the prophecies that the Messiah would come into mortality in the form of a man. This belief and understanding comes only to those to whom the “arm of the Lord,” or the power of God, is revealed, for the things of God can only be understood by the Spirit of God (1 Corinthians 2:11).

Many do not respond to the Spirit because of their hard-heartedness (John 12:39–41), that is, unwillingness to listen to the prophets. Thus, the apostle John reported: “But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him; that the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?” (John 12:37–38).

In the case of Abinadi and the priests of Noah, Abinadi testified that God would come in the “form of a man, and go forth in mighty power upon the face of the earth” (Mosiah 13:34), and the priests of Noah believed not his report.
