“Which Was Near to the Land of Our Fathers”

W. Cleon Skousen

Note that Zeniff admits his great zeal to inherit the land of their father and so he organized the second excursion. It sounds as though the second excursion lost its way in the mountain wilderness as they tried to make their way back to Lehi-Nephi. They suffered famine and many sore afflictions before they emerged from the wilderness and set up camp on the very spot where so many of the first excursion were killed.
