“She Should Rule over Them”
The antecedent of she in this sentence is wisdom. Joseph Smith’s translation of this verse as “she should rule” rather than “it should rule” is in harmony with the Semitic world view. in Hebrew and other languages of the ancient Near East wisdom is a feminine noun (see Proverbs 1:20-21; Proverbs 4:5-9; Proverbs 8:1-4; Proverbs 9:1-12).
