It is not enough to preach the gospel, even to preach with the power of a King Benjamin. Once the word has been delivered, once the witness has been planted, once commitment and conversion are forthcoming, then wise leaders begin an ongoing task: through reminders, through encouragement, and through repeated visits they do all in their power to “stir the people up in remembrance” of their solemn promise, that they might retain a remission of their sins. Wise undershepherds, those given the responsibility to guide the Lord’s flock, labor ceaselessly to keep the spiritual spark alive, to keep the flame of faith burning in the hearts of their people.
