After the people enter into their covenant with God and pledge their obedience, they receive the name that Benjamin had hinted at earlier in Mosiah 1:11: “I shall give this people a name, that thereby they may be distinguished above all the people which the Lord God hath brought out of the land of Jerusalem.” The name can only be blotted out if the people transgress. The name, we learn in Mosiah 5:7, is “the children of Christ.”
