“Types and Shadows”
As used in the scriptures, types, which include persons, objects, or events, symbolize future events of even greater magnitude. The prophetic nature of the type is the shadow that it casts. Virtually everything in the law of Moses was, according to divine design, given to teach and testify of Christ and his atoning sacrifice (Alma 34:14). Yet, like those of our day who have so immersed themselves in the Bible that they have lost sight of its intent and purpose, those of the ancient day became so enamored of the intricacies of the law that they lost sight of the Lawgiver. The law of Moses was a grand lesson given by Jehovah himself in which he foretold the events of his mortal ministry with symbols, similitudes, and substitutes.
