How was the law of Moses a type and shadow?

Thomas R. Valletta

“As used in the scriptures, types, which include persons, objects, or events, symbolize future events of even greater magnitude. The prophetic nature of the type is the shadow that it casts. Virtually everything in the law of Moses was, according to divine design, given to teach and testify of Christ and his atoning sacrifice (Alma 34:14). … The law of Moses was a grand lesson given by Jehovah himself in which he foretold the events of his mortal ministry with symbols, similitudes, and substitutes” (McConkie and Millet, Doctrinal Commentary, 2:151).
