The passing of the kingship is accomplished with this simple declarative statement; but Benjamin now dwells on the teaching and discharge of his obligations. It is tempting to read “my whole frame doth tremble exceedingly” as a consequence of Benjamin’s age (v. 26), but he lives three years beyond this point. Rather, it seems more significant that he is in the process of delivering a powerful sermon as Yahweh’s messenger. Thus, he trembles because of the effects of the Spirit on his physical body. Later, the Spirit also descends upon his people with such power that they are unable to speak the joy they felt (Mosiah 4:20). Benjamin is trembling in spiritual anticipation of his people’s great transformation.
