There are two things to begin with, Benjamin told his people, all of whom were members of God's Church, which you, if you labored forever, could not pay back. First, he said, "He created you," and gave you life. Secondly, He demands obedience to His laws. (v. 22) Here is another lesson for us to learn. It does not matter to what heights we climb, or to the depths into which we descend, the riches of the earth we acquire, or the joys we entertain; in spite of what we are and the worldly goods we accumulate, we are only the custodians of them; He is the owner, and we are the keepers whether good or bad. We can boast of nothing.
