“And Behold, All That He Requires of You is to Keep His Commandments”

George Reynolds, Janne M. Sjodahl

The words and phrases, behold, and it came to pass, now I say unto you, and some others, were commonly used by ancient Hebrew writers. This custom was carried on by the Nephites.

Now, let us put ourselves in the position of Benjamin's people, and ponder our inability to repay the Lord for his goodness. What would be our reaction to any demand for payment? We have already quoted the words of the prophet, "He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God." (2 Ne. 2:26-27) But, we are also reminded, "That to serve Him is perfect freedom, and to worship Him, the soul's purest happiness."
