Beginning with verse 12, Mormon commences discussing the career of the famous king Benjamin. He says that during the early part of king Benjamin's reign, the Nephites and the people of Zarahemla were plagued with serious contentions among themselves. But even more important, they began to be attacked by the Lamanites. And it was king Benjamin who personally took up the sword of Laban and led the Nephites in battle.
