“As the Lord Liveth Ye Will Be Saved”

W. Cleon Skousen

Speaking of himself, Amaleki says he was now very old, but he had not been blessed with any posterity. He therefore decided to give the sacred record to king Benjamin because he was a just man. In closing his record, Amaleki says all men should come unto God and believe in prophecy, revelation, the ministering of angels, the gift of speaking with tongues, the gift of interpreting languages, and all the things that are good. It is interesting that this verse and Alma 9:21 are the only passages in any available scriptures from the Old Testament period referring to the gifts of speaking with tongues and interpreting languages.

Even though Amaleki lived long before the birth of Christ, he called himself a Christian, and he knew all about the redemption of Jesus Christ. We note that Amaleki was the first righteous custodian of these plates following several generations.
