Culture: Omni describes himself as a Nephite, a warrior, and a wicked man. Obviously, armed conflict has intensified in frequency. Also obviously, Omni’s use of Nephite is absolutely political. Omni is a Nephite in contrast to the enemy Lamanites. He is a Nephite because of his allegiance to his community, not because of his religion. However, he is also a Nephite due to lineage traced through his fathers back to Jacob and Lehi. Jacob 1:13 indicates a continuation of clan designations, so those are available to Omni.
