What was significant about the land of Nephi?

Thomas R. Valletta

“After Nephi fled into the wilderness with his younger brothers and sisters, they settled in an area that came to be known as the land of Lehi-Nephi. Several generations later … a man named Mosiah took as many righteous people as would follow him and fled this land. Mosiah and his people wandered northward until they discovered the land of Zarahemla, which was inhabited by the Mulekites. … These two groups united and chose Mosiah as their king. Nevertheless, Lehi-Nephi continued to be considered the homeland of the Nephites” (Hurd, Our Sisters in the Latter-day Scriptures, 13).
