Jarom follows in the footsteps of his predecessors by keeping the sacred records of the covenant to preserve the chronicles of the Lord’s dealings with His people. We know that Jarom is a spiritual person, for he refers to his own “prophesying” and “revelations” (verse 2). However, he is also humble and self-effacing in that he declines to provide much detail of his own ministry, preferring instead to confirm the witness of those who have gone before him concerning the plan of salvation. However, he provides a compelling portrait of the prevailing tendency among many of his countrymen to fall short of spiritual progress because of their hardness, deafness, blindness, and stiffness. Nevertheless, God is merciful to them.
