It turned out that the thing Enos desired for the Lamanites was that they would not destroy the records of the Nephites. The threat of the Lamanites had been to not only wipe out the Nephites but also destroy their records. Enos undoubtedly had heard his father Jacob describe the near extinction of the Nephites which he had seen in vision, and Enos therefore prayed that even though the Nephites may be wiped out as a people that the Lord would preserve their records so they could come forth in the latter days and bring salvation to the remnant of Lehi's seed as well as the Gentiles who would come to take possession of the land.
