“In Mighty Prayer and Supplication”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet

It is doubtful that this and like texts were intended to convey the idea that such persons involved themselves in formal and un-interrupted prayer for such extended times. Paul wrote that we ought to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). In so writing he did not intend that we never get off our knees, but rather that we retain the spirit of prayer at all times, that we have, as it were, a prayer in our hearts. Enos would have spent his day interspersing formal prayer with soul searching, lamenting, imploring God for forgiveness, and pondering the promises of the scriptures.
