“We Being a Lonesome and a Solemn People”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

Having lost their ageless inheritance in the Old World, the Nephites hold firmly to the hope of a heavenly inheritance in the realms to come. Through the Atonement of Christ, they have the assurance of happiness and hope for a better world. But for the time being, they retain their spot of ground in the land of promise through ceaseless defensive measures against their enemies—not knowing from moment to moment what the next assault will bring. Are we not in a similar circumstance? We are beset on all sides by endless attacks from the forces of evil. We are wanderers in a telestial world where the only enduring light is the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and sometimes we mourn out our days, yearning for the security of our heavenly home.
