This apostate preached that there would be no Christ. He did not preach repentance but taught things which were flattering to the people in their sins. This is an old Satanical technique. It was his hope that he could completely overthrow the doctrine of Christ in the hearts and minds of the people. This man had great ambitions. He labored diligently for the specific purpose of deceiving the hearts of the people. In fact, he had lead many astray already. But what he really wanted was a direct confrontation with a prophet of God. What a victory it would be if he could shake the faith of the president of the Church. Therefore he "sought much opportunity" for an interview with him.
