“O Be Wise”

Monte S. Nyman

Jacob returns to his plea to repent and be wise by entering the strait gate (baptism) and continuing in the narrow way until eternal life is obtained. Jacob then bids us farewell until he meets us at the pleasing bar of God, which bar strikes the wicked with awful fear and dread.

The Lord is over all the earth. He is in charge and will bring about his purposes. Our challenge is to be wise and to follow the program as directed by his servants the prophets. We will see Jacob and know his words are true at the bar of God (v. 13). We will also “stand face to face before his bar” with Nephi (2 Nephi 33:11), and meet Moroni “before the pleasing bar of the great Jehovah, the Eternal Judge of both the quick and dead” (Moroni 10:34). Mormon will undoubtedly be there as well. What an incentive to “prepare to stand before the judgment-seat of Christ” (Mormon 3:16–22). Remember what Paul declared: For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that everyone may receive a reward of the deeds done in the body; things according to what he hath done, whether good or bad (2 Corinthians 5:10).
