Jacob’s conclusion communicates what must be personal despair over his people’s state. After telling them of the eternal pains they must endure and the means of repentance, he pleads with them to “be wise.” The choice is their hands. Jacob’s opinions are clear, but the burden of change is on them. Jacob, by exhorting and explaining Yahweh’s will, has done all he can.
