“Which Lake of Fire and Brimstone is Endless Torment”

W. Cleon Skousen

Even so, they cannot escape from Christ. The power of his redemption will bring them forth before the judgment to stand with shame and with an awful sense of guilt before the judgment bar of God. All those who stand condemned for rejecting the gospel will be required to go away and have their part in the lake of fire and brimstone which is known as endless punishment. In D&C 19:6-12, the Lord explains that there will always be a place of punishment for the disobedient and that is why it is called “endless.” However, the torment for the individual ends when he has paid the “uttermost farthing.”5 Nevertheless, in a modern revelation the Lord tells us how terrible it is to suffer for one’s own sins.6
