“When… Evil Fruit Shall Again Come”
The Millennium is to be brought in and Satan bound by the power of the priesthood (see Revelation 20:1-4). This state of purity must then be maintained by the righteousness of the people (see 1 Nephi 22:26). “When the thousand years are ended,” a modern revelation declares, “and men again begin to deny their God, then will I spare the earth but for a little season” (D&C 29:22). What will bring this on? Why would men and women forsake a life of millennial splendor? “Men will begin again, gradually, to partake of the things of this world; pride and carnality and crime will commence anew;true believers will be persecuted and false churches will arise. Satan will be loosed because he is no longer bound by the righteousness of the people.” (Millennial Messiah, p. 695.)
