In grafting in the branches through the gathering of Israel the Lord of the vineyard said they should start with the last, that is, the Gentiles among whom the blood of Israel had been scattered that they might be first in the latter days. They were then to go to those who were first in the beginning, meaning the Jews, who in Christ's time, were the first to receive the gospel, that in this dispensation they might be the last, thus fulfilling a prophecy in the scriptures, for example, 1 Nephi 13:42.
