The master suggested that they go forth and cut down the whole vineyard since all of their efforts seemed to have been in vain. The servant, however, pleaded with the lord of the vineyard saying, "spare it a little longer." The master consented because he said he was greatly grieved because of the loss of this vineyard. The master said they would take the transplanted branches from the various parts of the earth where they had been growing and graft them back into the mother tree. This probably has reference to the gathering of Israel in the latter days. The master further said that the branches of the mother tree which were producing the most bitter fruit would be cut out to make room for the grafting in of the natural branches. The master said he would do this in hopes that the tree might not perish and that he might yet preserve the root thereof.
